Automotive Color Finishing & Paint Texture Enhancement
High Contrast Automotive Video Color Grading Services
This Automotive Video Color Correction project for the Toyota Sequoia demanded a technically rigorous approach to visual storytelling. In car commercials, the vehicle is the "hero," and the colorist's primary job is to make that hero look expensive, powerful, and tangible. The raw footage, while dynamic, needed specific enhancements to separate the vehicle from the environment and accentuate its design lines.
Metallic Texture & Reflection Management The core of this grade was managing the specular highlights on the car’s body. Using DaVinci Resolve’s specific luminance qualifiers, I isolated the brightest reflections on the metal. I applied a "Glow" diffusion and boosted the mid-tone detail in these specific areas to make the paintwork glisten without blowing out the image. This technique gives the car a "liquid metal" look that is essential for high-end automotive advertising.
Environmental Separation To ensure the Sequoia stood out against the background, I utilized depth-based masking and power windows. I pushed the background environment (sky, road, foliage) towards a cooler, desaturated palette while keeping the car’s paint rich and neutral. This color separation creates depth, forcing the viewer's eye to lock onto the vehicle instantly.
Contrast & Dynamic Range Automotive grades rely heavily on the "S-Curve." I crushed the shadows to create deep, inky blacks in the tires and grille, communicating ruggedness and durability. Simultaneously, I protected the highlight rolloff to ensure the sky and windows retained detail. The final look is high-contrast and glossy, bridging the gap between a rugged off-road aesthetic and a luxury commercial finish.
